Kevin Tusiime is an engineer and educator working on ways to expand access to high-quality education across borders. He grew up in Kampala, Uganda, and came to the United States for college after relying heavily on free online education resources.
He studied Computer Science and Economics at the University of Rochester and went on to work in product and engineering roles at Microsoft, LinkedIn, Google, and early-stage AI startups. Over time, he became increasingly interested in how little of modern technology reaches the students who could benefit most from it.
Kevin now teaches computer science at a Title I public high school in Rochester, New York, while running small education pilots in Kampala that combine cash incentives, online learning, and local support for out-of-school youth. He has worked with schools and education leaders across East Africa to explore AI-enabled, mastery-based models.
He is currently building the Douglass Leadership Academy, a school model that experiments with delivering elite education at lower cost by operating between the US and the Global South. He writes and speaks about education, technology, and economic development.
